K2 Base Camp is one of the most iconic trekking destinations in Gilgit-Baltistan. Set beneath K2, the world’s second-highest mountain, the base camp offers experienced trekkers an unforgettable adventure among immense glaciers and some of the tallest peaks on Earth. The classic route begins in Skardu and continues through Shigar Valley and Dassu to Askole, the last village before the high Karakoram wilderness. From Askole, the trek follows the Baltoro Glacier towards Concordia, a spectacular meeting point surrounded by towering peaks. Many itineraries continue from Concordia to Broad Peak Base Camp and then K2 Base Camp, bringing trekkers close to the region’s legendary mountains. K-2

The trail offers changing scenery throughout the journey. Trekkers pass rocky valleys, glacial moraines and broad fields of ice, with views of peaks such as Broad Peak and the Gasherbrum group along the way. Concordia is a major highlight, often called the “Throne Room of the Mountain Gods,” where the scale of the surrounding mountains is especially striking.
