- DAY - 2 Islamabad – Chilas Depart Islamabad early and drive through Haripur and Mansera to join the Karakoram Highway (KKH) at Thakot. The KKH is a marvel of modern engineering and it is being reconstructed jointly by the FWO and our Chinese brothers. From Thakot to Khunjerab, the KKH winds over 887 kms through breath-taking mountain terrain. Shortly after Thakot we will stop to view the FWO monument before arriving at our lunch stop in Besham. Spectacular scenery is our companion and we will cross the sites of two important under construction dams at Dassu and Diamar-Basha. At.
